Meet DeLane Patterson

Before I spent 25 years as a pest control expert, I was an infantryman in the United States Marine Corps. The core values I learned back then—Honor, Courage, and Commitment—are still the foundation of everything I do today. In fact, I still carry my original core values card in my wallet.

When I left the Marines, I briefly tried selling cars. I hated the slimy feeling of the sales floor, so I walked away and took a chance on a job at a major corporate pest control company. That accidental start turned into a lifelong career where I learned the exact science of pest management, how to manage a successful business, and even met my wife, Sarah.

Meanwhile, my dad had retired to Arizona in 2000, got bored after a year, and started Open Range Pest Control. In 2012, after years of managing corporate branches in Scottsdale, I finally got tired of the corporate greed and the way big companies treated their people. I walked away from the corporate world to help my dad build Open Range. Within a year, the business had grown so much that Sarah was able to leave her corporate job to help run our front office.

I will always be grateful to the corporate giants for teaching me the industry, but when my family took over Open Range, my goal was simple: keep the high-level expertise, but completely strip away the corporate greed. Today, we treat our employees like family and our customers like neighbors. At Open Range, we do the job right, we charge a fair price, and we prove every day that integrity still means something.

When I’m not out in the field, my life revolves around my family. Sarah and I are proud parents to two boys: Aidan, who is in his first year at ASU, and Christopher, who followed in my footsteps by joining the Marines and now works right alongside us at Open Range. As recent empty nesters, Sarah and I try to hit the road in our camper to see the sights whenever we can, and we are both avid scuba divers who love traveling to dive. Of course, no trip home is complete without our two rescue dogs waiting for us—Sansa (a Shepherd/Husky mix) and Arya (a Lab/Chow mix).

Dennis Patterson

Owner / Operator Open Range Pest Control

Dennis, who after 27 years in law enforcement retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a Sergeant. After retirement he and his wife of over 40 years moved to the small town of Salome in western Arizona.

After enjoying retirement for a short time Dennis founded Open Range Pest Control in 2002 with no idea how quickly his small business would take off.

In just 10 years Dennis has expanded his business from Salome to Wickenburg and Quartzite to Lake Havasu and everything in between.

His friendly, “never met a stranger” attitude and devotion to solving his customers problems has helped him to grow largely by referrals from his customers. Dennis holds licenses in Arizona for both pest and termite control.

He operates the West Branch of Open Range Pest Control from the still small town of Salome.
